ISBE TRAVEL AWARDS

Participants can apply for an award to support travel, housing, and registration costs for ISBE 2026.

Applying for the travel award is NOT the same as submitting your abstract and/or registering for the conference. These additional steps must still be completed for you to present and/or otherwise participate in the conference.

Application dates

Applications for travel, housing, and registration awards to ISBE2026 in Torino, Italy, have been extended and will be accepted until the 7th of January 2026, 11.59PM Central European Time Zone. Please remember to adjust for any time zone difference if you plan on waiting until the last minute to submit your application. Important: the deadline for award application submission is FIRM – it will not be extended.

Award eligibility

Regardless of their citizenship or country of residence, PhD students (but not Master’s or Honors/undergrads) and postdocs (or other recent (<5 years) PhDs without or in temporary positions which offer minimal institutional support for meeting travel and participation) are eligible to apply for funding to offset the costs of participating in the ISBE 2026 conference. In addition, any participant whose home institution is located in developing nations (i.e., countries other than any in Europe, USA, Canada, Israel, South Korea, Japan, Australia and New Zealand) also is eligible to apply.

We will only aware travel grants if your abstract has been accepted for a poster or oral presentation and you attend the conference to present your results.

Award recipients are required to be current members of ISBE at the time of their travel grant application. You can join the society via this link: https://academic.oup.com/beheco/pages/become_an_isbe_member

In case you have any questions about your membership, the linked page also provides an email address for the Membership Team at Oxford University Press.

Application review

All funds are awarded on a competitive basis. Funding levels and award amounts will hinge on the number of applications we receive and the travel costs of the applicant pool. Funding decisions are based largely on the likely impact of your research results on the field of behavioral ecology as judged by a panel of Abstract Reviewers of the ISBE2026 conference organizing committee. Applicants will be notified via email of their travel funding status by early-February 2026. If you applied for an award and do not receive an email from the award committee by February 20, 2026, please contact ISBE’s Treasurer at mhauber@gc.cuny.edu

Award distribution

Awards will be distributed in part before and in part at the conference.

About the application

The application is short; in addition to basics such as contact information, year Ph.D. anticipated or awarded, advisor/supervisor’s name and email address, you’ll need to provide: the title of your presentation, list of co-authors, a pasted-in copy of your abstract, and a detailed estimate of each of your registration fee and transportation costs (in Euros) for the meeting (as provided by google flights, skyscanner, etc.).
